Wednesday morning we slept in and recovered from going up and down three massive flights of stairs non-stop at the Biltmore house. We decided to go see some of the things that we thought looked interesting from our trolley tour on Monday. The first stop was the Grove Park Inn. Robbie wanted to go here because of there amazing golf course. This place is really neat-looking but kind of creepy to me...
We rode a shuttle to the Pro Shop, and while we were inside, we found out that this is where President Obama played golf while he was visiting Asheville.
We wanted to ride a cart around the course, but it was extremely busy that day, so we went back to explore the main part of the hotel. This picture is in the lobby, and Robbie is standing in the fire place! They had two massive fire places at each end of the lobby, and 30 people could stand comfortably in each of them!
For lunch, we went to Biltmore Village. This is a little shopping center across from the Biltmore Estate. It was originally housing for some of the staff, and it surrounds the church that Mr. Vanderbilt built for himself and his staff to attend. We ate at the Corner Kitchen, which was another stop for Pres. Obama on his trip.
We started out with some gazpacho with cilantro sour cream. It was really good, but it is served as a cold soup. Good, but not what we're used to.
I got the Italian Cuban panini with fruit salad and potato salad.
And Robbie got the club sandwich with red slaw and french fries.
After lunch, we were driving back to the cottage, when we saw a billboard for Tiger Woods' golf course the Cliffs! Of course, Robbie was dying to see it, so we looked for it, only to find that it wasn't finished. But we took a picture of the sign anyway :D
For dinner, we decided to get dressed up and go downtown! It was super rainy, but in a nice way.
The restaurant was called Fiore's, and by the time we got there, it wasn't raining to hard anymore. Just enough for a cozy dinner at an Italian restaurant.
I got the Gnocci Della Casa. It had a really yummy cream sauce and was garnished with bacon (YUM!) the "pasta" was more like dumplings. Very good and very rich!
Robbie got the Papa Fred's pizza, which was a cross between a pizza and a calzone. It was so good!
After dinner we stopped at the little book shop. It was super cute and played good music and had good cinnamon muffins!
