Tuesday morning, we got up and made some coffee, then went to the main attraction in Asheville - the Biltmore house! I had so much fun re-visiting this place. The last time I was there, I was too young to enjoy it. It is the largest private residence in the U.S., and it is extremely interesting, considering the fact that the house had electricity, indoor plumbing, several elevators, an indoor pool and a bowling alley before most people in America knew what those things were.
This is the entrance gate...
And this is us waiting to go on the Butler's Tour, where we got to see the maid's rooms, the electric cicuit and other things that the household staff would do.
After the Butler's tour was over, we went to the Stable Cafe for lunch. Robbie had the most amazing hamburger and I had a chicken salad (with apricots and almonds) sandwich.
After lunch, we took the audio tour. We got this for free, because we mentioned that we were there on our honeymoon and the lady was a romantic! :D Hooray, free things for newlyweds!
We were super tired by the end of our audio tour, and forgot to take the infamous picture from the front of the house, so on our way out we jumped out of the car really fast to take these pictures...
After that, we went to Antler Hill Village, which is still part of the Biltmore property. On our way we saw these guys crossing the street...
And we also stopped to take a picture of this view of the house...
Our first stop at Antler Hill Village was this ice cream shop! They had the most amazing ice cream. I got the Biltmore Vanilla (which is the original recipe used by the Vanderbilts when they lived in the home) and Robbie got butter pecan.
After our ice cream had been eaten, we made our way to the winery for wine tasting (what would have been my first time!) and realized that I didn't have my ID. The funny part was that the girl that was carding us was young than me. Since I had no proof of my age, Robbie bought a bottle of wine so that I could have the experience and when we got home I tried a sip, gagged at the extremely awful taste and we dumped it down the drain. This confirmed that we are Welch's sparkling grape juice people...not wine people.
After the wine-tasting fiasco, we went back to the cottage to rest for a little while, and then ate at the Stone Creek Tavern for dinner. This restaurant was right down the road from our cottage and VERY good!
We got a blooming onion for our appetizer (it was called something else there but I don't remember what).
And I got pork chops and mashed potatos.
Robbie got lasagne, but his was half-eaten by then time I remembered to take a picture of it. :)
