August 3
What I thought would be my last prenatal visit before Baby Simmy got here. I was dilated 4cm (same as last visit) and could go into labor any time. We discussed what would happen if the baby did not come by his due date. We scheduled an induction for August 9 just in case, but decided to wait as long as possible and give him more time to come on his own. We tried walking a lot and all the other suggestions to naturally induce labor.
August 7
Due date!! No signs of labor - still doing lots of walking, mostly at the mall since its WAY too hot outside.
August 9
Last prenatal visit. Still at 4cm. Schedule to induce on the 15th, and continue lots of walking.
August 14
Try to stay busy and upright so baby can drop lower. Eat dinner at La Parilla with Robbie (our last meal just the two of us) and get spicy food to try to get labor going. Meet Rob's mom and pick up casseroles for when we get back from the hospital. Try to get some sleep.
August 15
4am: Wake up, no signs of labor, get ready to go to the hospital.
5am: Arrive to the ER, get checked into the delivery room, sign paperwork, get hooked up to monitors to keep track of me and baby.
6am: Get hooked up to pitocin to get contractions started.
7am: Start feeling contractions, they are very light and just feel like pressure on my stomach.
8:30am: Still only about 4.5 cm, doctor breaks my water to get things moving. Almost immediately the contractions feel more intense, but bearable - just like menstrual cramps.
9am: Contractions are getting really intense, and nurse says it will be at least 6 more hours, so we decided to get the epidural.
9:30am: Anesthesiologist comes in and gives me my epidural. Within 10 minutes I feel better and by 20 minutes, I hardly feel anything!
10am: Feeling much better and get a much needed nap.
12pm: Robbie goes to get lunch with everyone that is in the waiting room, I eat an orange popsicle with ice chips.
1 - 4:30pm: Go back and forth between napping and watching TV (mostly Food Network and HGTV).
4:45pm: Starting to feel nauseated, get sick and have to change clothes and bed sheets. Nurse says that 's good and is a sign it's almost time to push.
5pm: Start pushing! Doctor comes in to deliver Baby Simmy!
5:20pm: Baby is here!!! At this point I don't even remember hearing him cry, it was really just one big blur. Robbie cut the cord, and I remember watching the nurse clean the baby off and weigh and measure him (9.9 lbs, 22in) while the doctor was stitching me up.
5:45pm: Nurse brings baby over to me and helps me nurse him. And everyone clears out of the room. Me, Robbie and baby get about an hour to rest, nurse and attempt to take everything in while we wait for a room to be available.
7:30pm: A room is available, I try to get up but am very dizzy. Nurse gets a wheel chair and we head to our room. As we pass the waiting room, we see all of our family, and they take lots of pictures.
7:45pm: Get settled into our room and let the nurse know we're ready for visitors.
8pm: Rob's parents bring us burgers from 5 Guys (I was starved and that was the best burger of my life at that point!) Family comes in and visits a few at a time.
9pm: Everyone leaves and we are alone for our first night as a family of 3!
I absolutely lived my doctor and the nurses that delivered the baby, and could not have asked for a better experience!
